Quick Tip
Engineering ControlCenter in SAP PLM Eases Transition for Engineers  Print

by Peter Demtschenko, National Competency Center, SAP America

Learn how a tool within SAP PLM, Engineering ControlCenter, simplifies how you manage engineering data by centralizing engineering tasks.

PLM

Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) implementations involve changes to engineering tools and roles. To help make PLM implementations in the engineering community go more smoothly, SAP provides Engineering ControlCenter for the data management part of an engineer’s work. It gives engineers tools to structure, control, and, if necessary, modify enterprise content. It serves as a central location for engineering processes, such as change management and collaboration. Engineering ControlCenter connects directly to SAP Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Desktop to provide CAD data access.

Integrated with SAP PLM and SAP NetWeaver, Engineering ControlCenter allows you to avoid the expense of third- party, non-integrated PLM/Partitioned Data Management (PDM) applications. Previously known as PLM++, Engineering ControlCenter has been around for a few years. It was recently updated for SAP NetWeaver 2004 and given the new name Engineering ControlCenter.

Let me explain the updated Engineering ControlCenter framework and how you can integrate it with your current engineering systems. You need to purchase Engineering ControlCenter as an add-on and you can use it with R/3 4.6c and later. You also must have the latest version of Java installed. This tool is suited for power users who need access to authoring applications and large amounts of data.
